There is much scholarly debate about the validity of who Shakespeare really was. The film, Anonymous takes a bold stab at one possible scenario. Many viewers take sides after watching this film and get very passionate about it all, but I suggest forgetting the debate and focus on the beauty of the movie. It is hard to believe that it was directed by Roland Emmerich, best known for Hollywood action movies such as The Day After Tomorrow and 2012.

Emmerich worked with cinematographer Anna Foerster on the project, with whom he has collaborated since Independence Day in 1996 and their chemistry shows. This is the first feature film to have been shot with an ALEXA digital camera which can shoot entire ballroom scenes with only candlelight. Shooting this way allowed for beautiful lighting and seamless special effects. See it on BluRay if possible.

This trailer is just OK, the film is MUCH better.
