More peeks at my first retrospective book with Titan Publishers.

Most of my early illustrations started with a solid graphite/charcoal drawing either on board or paper. These drawings were the foundation of the painting that would go over it.

Most of the time the drawing would be obliterated beneath the paint, but more and more I let the drawing show through because I loved many of them so much. Sometimes I decided the drawing was really strong enough to carry the entire illustration and would hand it in as final art. This was one of those pieces that I could not cover in paint.

It’s called “Karma” and relates to the responsibilities and duties that we carry upon our shoulders throughout our lifetime(s).

Highlights from over thirty years of my art career will be showcased in The Art of Greg Spalenka: Visions from the Mind’s Eye to be released in July 2014, at the San Diego Comic Con.
